| Passiflora sidifolia, formerly known as Passiflora sidaefolia. Xylocopa are large carpenter bees, so called because they make their nests in dry wood such as stumps, logs or dead tree branches. They can also do damage to houses & furniture in some countries. They resemble bumblebees but do not have the yellow hairs and the top of the abdomen is usually bare. They are usually blue/black in colour with green or purple iridescence. Note this flower is very similar to that of P. actinia. |
