Passiflora loefgrenii 'Corupa' and 'Iporanga'

Many thanks to Mauro Peixoto Brazil for the Passiflora loefgrenii seed. Remarkable flowers which are thought to appeal to hummingbirds when first open then to bees later in the day as their shape changes. As this has also been observed in P. 'Amethyst' it may be more common than we think and explain the reflexing observed in a number of Passiflora.

A comparison shot of Passiflora loefgrenii 'Corupa' with the much larger & more spectacular Passiflora loefgrenii 'Iporanga' on the right. It can be difficult to tell these plants apart if you only have one and are relying on pictures to identify it. This should help:-

	P. loefgrenii 'Corupa'	P. loefgrenii 'Iporanga'
Plant	More reddish stems on new growth. 7cm petiole. 2 unpaired petiole glands. 3 lobed leaves 16cm across 9cm long. A flatter leaf with slightly narrower lobes and less obvious veins.	Greener stems on new growth. 7cm petiole. 2 unpaired petiole glands. 3 lobed. 16cm across 9cm long. Perhaps slightly wider lobes and lobes curled down. More prominent veins.
Peduncle	11cm. Flower hanging down like P. gritensis.	18cm. Flower hanging down like P. gritensis.
Flower colour	Purple/lilac petals & sepals.	Purple/red petals and sepals.
Size	8.5cm across flattened.	Up to 12cm across flattened.
Reflex	Opens from flat only to some reflex, depending on clone.	Full reflex like p. 'Amethyst' etc and will stay reflexed for 48 hours.
Petals	Tendency of some clones to appear crumply-which can also be seen in some of it hybrid offspring.	Normal smooth petals.
Filaments	Multiple rows. Outer filamants speckled light lilac with a darker inner band. 2 outer rows stay merged with inner rows. Looks like a mini fibre optic lamp.	Multiple rows. Outer filaments a deep violet with darker inner band 2 outer rows reflex back with the flower. Again looks like a mini fibre optic lamp before it reflexes.
Styles	Very speckled.	Lightly speckled near the ends.
Pollination	Self pollinates easily. Application of foreign pollen seems to lead to selfing.	Will not self. Hard to set any fruit on it except with an unrelated clone.
