Passiflora 'BMY' leaf SEM | P. caerulea leaf SEM

  Notes:-

  P. 'Betty Myles Young' has been chosen for contrast with P. caerulea because it is a polyploid hybrid. As such from studies done on other plants we would expect it to have slightly larger and less frequent stomata than the diploid caerulea.

On some of the leaf pictures particularly there are 'Corn Flake' like elements as above in this fantastic picture of a polyploid stoma. They are little curls of wax from the epidermis as a result of the vacuum procedure.

'Abaxial' = lower surface of leaf, sepal etc. 'Adaxial' = upper surface of leaf, sepal etc.
