Passiflora ampullacea. Many thanks to Giovanni Onore the President of the Otonga Foundation in Ecuador for his kindness in letting me use these rare and wonderful images © 2009 Otonga Foundation E. Tapia.

Peter Jorgeson comments that P. ampullacea is an endemic to the area surrounding Cuenca Ecuador, and is hummingbird pollinated. Further he talked to Linda Escobar years ago and she had expected it to be pollinated by bats and had camped out all night by an open flower only to see a hummingbird visit it in the early morning hours. A fabulous rare flower with stunning red bracts.
